'Vanity Fair' Strikes Back Print

Shortly after I sent this letter, my subscription vanished.  Curiously enough, on June 28, 2008, I received a check from Vanity Fair for $7.92.  The stub said it was the refund I had requested.  I hadn't requested a refund.  But, it's probably the right amount to compensate me for the magazines it failed to send after I wrote the letter.  Huh...do you suppose it learned that the letter is here?

Kids Say The Darndest Things Print

Back in the days of black & white TV, Art Linkletter had a show called House Party that evolved into Kids Say The Darndest Things.  In the late 90s, Bill Cosby hosted a show with the same name.  All were based on the premise of talking to children and hearing their responses, which were frequently hilarious.  This isn't about those shows--this is about my grandchildren (and in some cases my daughter) and what they had to say that cracked us up.

Family Gatherings Print

When I was very young, my parents and I celebrated the Peterson Family Christmas with two other families: Uncle Bud (my dad's brother) and Aunt Margie and their children Susie and Steve, and Auntie Esther (my dad's sister) and Uncle Ed and their children Joe and Bill. Jennifer's Wedding Print

When Jennifer and Duane decided to get married, we made arrangements for the wedding to take place where Sue and I were married: The Neighborhood Church of Palos Verdes.

We booked the church, booked the Ocean Trails Golf Club clubhouse for the reception, arranged for Bellows Photography to take pictures, located the best wedding cake maker anywhere (Bridal Sweets), and began the search for a florist, all the while figuring that there would be about 300 guests.

Then, after hosting an engagement party for 125 friends of both families at our clubhouse, Jennifer and Duane told us that they didn't want a large wedding after all. They calculated that at 300 people, they would have about 15 seconds to speak to each one. They wanted to be able to have some quality time with everyone.
