Nike has a large counterfeiting problem. Unscrupulous companies manufacture goods using Nike’s logo and sell those goods wherever they can—swap meets, on the streets of New York, etc. Admittedly, this is reprehensible and I support prosecution of any exporter and/or importer involved.

Our Amazing Congress At Work |

"Amazing" is probably the right word, in terms of political correctness. As I continue to walk the halls of Congress every September, at minimum, and work with our national association to deal with legislation (or the lack thereof) passed by Congress, I am incredulous. That anything at all is accomplished is amazing in and of itself, but some of the stuff they pass is amazingly ridiculous.

Why aren't Hollywood celebrities holding telethons asking for help in restoring Iowa and helping the folks affected by the floods? Better to ask those folks than ask me, but there are some others that are worth asking, too...

Why is it that so many people don’t bother to RSVP now? Is it because they don’t know what it means? Or are they just rude?

No, I don't have any profound thoughts about Vietnam. I don't weep and wail about it. I don't castigate our government or anyone else about it, except perhaps to say that Congress, as usual, made a hash of it and should have let the military do its job. Suffice it to say that I went there, volunteered to stay (twice!) and was fortunate to come back safe and sound.

Shortly after I sent this letter, my subscription vanished. Curiously enough, on June 28, 2008, I received a check from Vanity Fair for $7.92. The stub said it was the refund I had requested. I hadn't requested a refund. But, it's probably the right amount to compensate me for the magazines they failed to send after I wrote the letter. Huh...do you suppose they learned that the letter is here?

Kids Say The Darndest Things |

Back in the days of black & white TV, Art Linkletter had a show called House Party that evolved into Kids Say The Darndest Things. In the late 90s, Bill Cosby hosted a show with the same name. All were based on the premise of talking to children and hearing their responses, which were frequently hilarious. This isn't about those shows--this is about my grandchildren (and in some cases my daughter) and what they had to say that cracked us up.
